Recognising the need to construct a new ablution block with accessible facilities, Rosemount Nursery enlisted GeoBox Pty Ltd to design and build a facility, customised for the needs of their customers and staff.

Rosemount Nursery is a premier nursery and garden centre located on the Sunshine Coast. They are a leading supplier of garden and landscaping supplies throughout the local area and beyond.

Referred to GeoBox Pty Ltd by an existing shipping container customer, Rosemount Nursery met with the GeoBox Pty Ltd team in late 2020 to discuss the construction of a new ablution facility for their site.

Accessibility and aesthetics were key elements for the newly designed ablution block

The existing amenities block at Rosemount Nursery was outdated and inefficient. It didn’t meet the criteria for disabled access, nor did it have any infant care facilities.

Identifying the need for a new, modern ablution block, Rosemount Nursery briefed the GeoBox Pty Ltd team, highlighting that they wanted the facility to blend harmoniously with their current industrial/garden environment, while also featuring an added touch of quirkiness.

Plans are drawn up, council gives the green light and work begins

Upon entering the GeoBox Pty Ltd shipping container yard for their first meeting, the Rosemount team spotted GeoBox Pty Ltd’s own toilet block which is located right beside their office. They instantly knew this was the design they wanted.

GeoBox Pty Ltd supplied Rosemount Nursery with a concept drawing of the portable ablution block. They took this to their engineer who finalised the design and drew up plans, ready for council approval.

Once the go-ahead from council was received, GeoBox Pty Ltd began work on the custom shipping container build.

GeoBox Pty Ltd – Custom Ablution Block Containers

Streamlined communication and continuous client updates were essential to ensure a smooth build process

Rosemount Nursery’s new portable ablution block incorporates one disabled toilet with a nappy changing facility, one ambulant toilet & two standard toilets.

While this was a straightforward build for the experienced GeoBox Pty Ltd team, there were some supply delays, which is a common issue in the current building industry. In particular, there was an extended wait for Rosemount Nursery’ special-order toilets which have a clean line bowl, maximising hygiene and cleanliness – both crucial in today’s climate.

“There was a delay on the supply of the toilets for Rosemount Nursery’s ablution facility – with three changes in delivery times! Although this is not uncommon in this day and age, our team went above and beyond to ensure the lines of communication were kept open with our client, setting realistic expectations and keeping them up-to-date with their build at all times. This was key to the project’s success”, said Mr Hooper.

The new ablution block has now been installed on-site at Rosemount Nursery, with customers and staff both very happy with the updated facilities.

Over the last few months shipping container seller scams have been rife with scammers taking advantage of increasing market prices and the COVID restrictions that has moved many interactions to online only.

GeoBox Pty Ltd is increasingly hearing reports of people making payments and not being able to recover them after exposing the business they have paid as being a scam. Most experiences involve lodging online enquiries, either through Facebook adverts or Google adverts and receiving emails similar to below.

Note: use of gmail email, ABN not matching business name, website a .com and not Australian nor matching the claimed business name. No full address.

Known fraudulent names / business names in use

Below are some tips you should take to reduce the risk of being scammed.

  1. Verify the business you are dealing with. Request a copy of current business registration certificate, liability insurance, bank account proof of ownership. Look for proof of full address, a publicly listed number, Google location information, Facebook business profiles, third part site mentions, reviews, and ensure they have a .com.au website address.

  2. Call the publicised number. Check for an Australian published contact number. When speaking, do they sound legitimate? Ask lots of questions about locations and containers.

  3. Check email and website addresses. Legitimate businesses will not use a Gmail or Hotmail email account. Their email and website will use their business name and .com.au.

  4. Payments. Legitimate businesses will not accept bitcoin as payment. Consider paying by a method you can challenge/reverse (check with your bank for advice).

I am not sure if I am dealing with a scammer

Think you may be dealing with a scam shipping container seller business? We’d be happy to provide you some advice, and a real price on a real container. Call us on (048) 998-9109.

Experiencing rapid business growth, JAWA Campers approached GeoBox Pty Ltd to design and build a portable sales office that they could conveniently locate beside their showroom in Caboolture.

JAWA identifies the need for a separate space to meet with customers

A leading supplier of outback camper trailers and camper hybrids, JAWA is a family-owned and operated business. They moved from the Sunshine Coast into a large showroom in Caboolture just before the first COVID lockdown in 2020.

Needing the entire showroom to display their camper models, JAWA found they required additional space to meet with customers. They wanted a quiet and professional area – to speak with customers, answer their questions, take them through the purchase process and go through the necessary paperwork.

GeoBox Pty Ltd transform JAWA’s initial concept into a purpose-built space

JAWA first came to GeoBox Pty Ltd with rough drawings, outlining the space they wished to create. It needed to be a conducive environment for selling, away from the noise of the showroom and a comfortable area for both their salespeople and customers.

“We knew and trusted the Managing Director of GeoBox Pty Ltd, Spencer, having worked with him in the shipping container industry for a number of years. We’d seen a lot of his work and knew that his team were very experienced in delivering shipping container office and sales buildings.” Emmy Perry, JAWA

Looking for a temporary solution, a portable sales office provided the perfect solution for JAWA. Rather than utilising a portable which is 3m wide and not easy to transport, they could use two shipping containers (each measuring 2.4m), which could be transported to site and simply joined together to provide the space required.

The GeoBox Pty Ltd team met with John from JAWA to discuss his requirements and desired outcome. Tweaking the original concept, GeoBox Pty Ltd drew up the plans to include a kitchen along with a spacious welcoming deck that doubles as an outdoor area.

Project ‘JAWA Sales Office’ gets underway

Once the plans were finalised, GeoBox Pty Ltd worked diligently to transport the containers to site. However, once they arrived, the JAWA team decided they’d prefer to change the orientation of the office.

GeoBox Pty Ltd were able to accommodate this change of plan with ease. An agile and versatile team, they moved quickly to order in a crane and re-configure the modular shipping containers to suit.

Then, once the containers were installed, the GeoBox Pty Ltd team got to work – joining, waterproofing and insulating the office. Next, they installed power, air conditioning, data points and a phone system, ready for JAWA to organise the plumbing and move in.

Working diligently, GeoBox Pty Ltd completed the JAWA project within a 12 week period (even despite Christmas and COVID-19 restrictions).

New sales area is perfectly on-brand

JAWA is well-recognised in South East Queensland for their distinct orange branding. After having their showroom painted, they asked GeoBox Pty Ltd if they could paint the sales office in their corporate colours.

It can often be a difficult process to match a marine paint colour (that is used on containers) to a Pantone colour, as they generally are applied to different objects – for example, steel versus paper. But GeoBox Pty Ltd were ready for the challenge.

Thinking outside the square, the team contacted the company that had built the showroom and worked closely with them to work out the correct orange colour configuration. And the end result? It is spot on!

The JAWA customer experience is uplevelled

JAWA are exceptionally happy with their new sales space. It has streamlined their sales process, enabling customers to be welcomed straight into the front office as soon as they arrive.

Greeted by sales staff, who are able to form an instant connection with them, customers feel comfortable and relaxed – from the moment they enter the premises to the time they leave.

Designing and building a versatile, compact facility for a lot feeding business, GeoBox Pty Ltd provided a custom shipping container solution. When a lot feeding business decided to upgrade their office, check-in and amenity facilities, they contacted GeoBox Pty Ltd, looking for a multi-faceted shipping container solution. Operating in a premium market, they needed the entry to their premises to align with their brand, provide staff with a welcoming work environment, and reflect the high level of their quality products and service.

Converting a customer’s idea into a practical and definitive concept

Wanting to provide optimum facilities for their staff and truck drivers, the lot feeding business first got in touch with GeoBox Pty Ltd via an online enquiry. The brief was that they needed to accommodate staff and office needs, trucks checking in and out of the premises, as well as amenities for long-haul drivers to refresh and revive. Responding with a detailed quote, GeoBox Pty Ltd went above and beyond to map out the best method of transforming the initial idea into a versatile shipping container configuration. Then, getting the green light from the customer, GeoBox Pty Ltd moved quickly to deliver a more comprehensive concept.

A unique, multi-level shipping container design is developed

Incorporating two shipping containers, GeoBox Pty Ltd’s concept encompassed a two-storey facility. One 40ft container on the ground level accommodates separate male and female shower and toilets. And, on the upper level is a 20ft container incorporating the office and check-in/check-out point. Thrilled with this plan, the customer gave the go-ahead to move the project into the design stage.

Customer required a neat, clean and compact design

Once the plans were drawn up, GeoBox Pty Ltd began the build and fit-out at their in-house facility. Crucial to this project was that the facility be compact and neat. The customer required the plumbing and electrical to be all located in one central place and rather than having the pipes exposed, they needed them to be recessed. This addressed an important safety issue, minimising the risk of injury and damage, with the high volume of trucks entering and leaving the premises. Adept problem-solvers, GeoBox Pty Ltd specifically designed and built the facility to ensure the pipes were concealed, while still maximising the internal space.

Each measurement in the build had to be exact

GeoBox Pty Ltd brought in their team of licenced contractors to install the shower and toilets. Like putting a puzzle together, these had to be installed one-by-one, knowing that if any of the measurements were out, the design wouldn’t work as planned. Upstairs in the check-in office, GeoBox Pty Ltd built two access points, a door at the front and the back of the container. This allows staff to enter and leave the building with ease, while truck drivers check-in at the front desk only. Keeping the office self-sufficient, GeoBox Pty Ltd also organised the installation of a hot water system for the staff to use.

The final touch is added before handover

Upon completion of the fit-out, GeoBox Pty Ltd also organised for the shipping containers to be painted in the customer’s corporate colours, ensuring they aligned perfectly with their brand.

GeoBox Pty Ltd then delivered the complete fitted-out containers to site, where the customer organised their own electrical and plumbing connection. The customer also built their own platforms, stairs and verandah to enable easy upper-level access.

A fast, efficient and streamlined process from concept to completion

Completing the project within 7 – 8 weeks from project approval through to delivery of the shipping containers, GeoBox Pty Ltd ensured the process was smooth, quick and easy.

Delivering well within the expected timeframe, the customer is extremely happy with their new facilities, as are their staff, truck drivers and visitors.

An exceptional refrigerated container solution across a range of industries

Supermarket storage

Event Catering

GeoBox Pty Ltd will deliver your selected ArcticStore to your event – on time, every time. Keeping catered food and drinks at the perfect chilled temperature, our containers are also user-friendly, providing your staff with easy and safe access.

Hospital Catering

Providing your catering department with additional space to store meals, food and produce, the ArcticStore is an ideal solution for when your refrigeration units are being serviced.

Fruit and vegetables

Extending the shelf-life of your fresh produce through controlled fresh air exchange, our containers can quickly remove field heat from produce.

Pharmaceutical

Drugs, medicines, vaccines, bio and life science require the highest standards of cold storage. Meeting these requirements, ArcticStore and SuperStore containers provide a hygienic refrigerated environment with zero temperature variance. ArcticStores with Magnum Plus refrigeration can also be GDP certified.

Meat and poultry

With an operating range of -40°C to +45°C, ArcticStores and SuperStores provide effective, efficient and affordable cold storage for fresh or frozen meat and poultry products.

Fish, shellfish and tuna

Hygienic and easy to clean, the ArcticStores feature four hermetic drains through which any melted ice can escape. Also featuring a low fan speed, this reduces hydration of unprotected fish during storage.

Flowers, plants and seed

Featuring fresh air exchange, the ArcticStore provides a healthy storage environment and reduces the risk of dehydration for cut flowers, bulbs, infant trees, mushrooms and all living plants.

Geological storage

Ideal for storing soil samples, the ArcticStore will maintain geological specimens at their original temperature to enable more accurate readings.

User-friendly features that make a big difference

Power-saving door sensors

Every door in the ArcticStore and SuperStore containers is installed with a sensor. This triggers the cooling system to switch off when a door is opened and back on once it’s closed. Minimising humidity within the container, this functionality optimises power-efficiency.

One-hand opening doors

Allowing staff to easily open and close the container door, the one-hand opening doors provide improved accessibility – perfect for when your hands are full.

40/60 doors

The 40/60 doors that feature in each ArcticStore and SuperStore mean that generally, only one door needs to be opened for people to move in and out. Not only helpful for accessibility, this also improves cooling efficiency.

External hitch points

Imperative to workplace safety, the external hitch points are purpose-built to secure open doors, even in the windiest conditions.

Strip curtains

Fitted with strip curtains, these reduce any heat gain while container doors are open.

Internal lighting

Each ArcticStore and SuperStore features internal lighting, allowing staff to easily navigate the refrigerated container when it’s dark.

Illuminated internal signage

All internal safety, escape and ID signage is iridescent and clearly visible. This ensures that if there is a power failure, all personnel inside the unit can exit the refrigerated container safely.

Purpose-built ramp

Each cold storage container is supplied with a purpose-built ramp which is graded to 600kg capacity, allowing for the use of cages and manual pallet lifters.

Health & safety is a priority for our refrigerated containers

Focused on health and safety, ArcticStores and SuperStores are designed to protect you and your workers. Minimising the risk of injury, their safety features include:

  • Internal door release
  • Anti-slip aluminium flat floor (as opposed to a t-bar floor)
  • Internal lighting
  • Panic alarm with siren
  • Ground to floor ramp

SmartArctic Remote Monitoring

Did you know you can control your ArcticStore or SuperStore remotely from anywhere in the world? SmartArctic gives you the ability to set up, monitor and manage your refrigerated containers – all from your desktop, tablet or smartphone.

Saving you time and money, you can configure set-points, initiate defrosting and receive alarm notifications. And if there is a malfunction, we can diagnose it quickly, minimising any downtime.

GeoBox Pty Ltd designed, built and delivered customised shipping container offices to Papua New Guinea, providing Exxon Mobil with a multiple office solution across four remote highland locations.

In June 2019, ExxonMobil approached GeoBox Pty Ltd about designing and building multiple shipping container offices that could be shipped to four of their gas drilling sites located in PNG. A project valued at $1.4 million, it presented a range of challenges that required extensive deliberation, creativity, collaboration and a solution-focused approach.

Transforming a concept into functional design, GeoBox Pty Ltd provided a custom solution

The scope for this project was developed over time and involved extensive collaboration between ExxonMobil and GeoBox Pty Ltd. ExxonMobil knew they needed a robust modular office solution and while they’d developed a rough concept, they required GeoBox Pty Ltd to provide guidance and transform their ideas into a customised, fully functional design.

Developing the early blueprints in-house, GeoBox Pty Ltd were able to provide ExxonMobil with a basic idea of the concept and how it would work. Once the plans were finalised, GeoBox Pty Ltd outsourced it to an architectural designer, who worked to both Australian standards and ExxonMobil’s stringent design standards to deliver a bespoke portable office solution.

From the initial plans through to the approved design, the project scope changed significantly. The overriding design encompassed the job being split into four sites with multiple offices in each location. The final output was 24 x 20ft custom containers, which included six amenities (toilet and shower) blocks.

Portable offices required to be extremely durable and resilient

Each 20ft open-plan container office was designed to accommodate between two and four staff. Fitting out these standard size containers was not without its challenges, however, GeoBox Pty Ltd were versatile and worked quickly and diligently to ensure they delivered the best solutions possible.

Taking into consideration that the shipping container offices were being transported by sea then taken by air to remote camps located 1,000 km inland from Lae, the offices needed to be practical and robust. They also had to be shipped ‘near to completion’, as there were minimal labour resources available to finish construction on site.

Security was a priority in the construction of bespoke shipping container offices

With a possibility of civil unrest throughout provincial and urban areas in PNG, ensuring the safety of staff is a priority for ExxonMobil. The shipping container offices needed to be extremely secure, enabling staff to take refuge for many hours, if necessary.

Following safety and security directives, GeoBox Pty Ltd fitted drop bars and peepholes to all personal access doors along with security grills on the windows. The offices also needed to provide comfort, and so were fully lined and insulated, with custom desks built-in.

Container layout with a purpose-built roof form a practical work hub

Encompassing a complete and functional workspace, GeoBox Pty Ltd designed the container layout to form a practical and efficient hub. Placing eight of the containers in a rectangular configuration, they constructed a custom-built roof which will be used to form a secure undercover area and meeting room. The roof structure is insulated and has a suspended ceiling. Supplied in kit form, it will be assembled on site.

Out of the eight containers, six are used as office units accommodating between two and four workers. Also included is one container fitted with toilet amenities and another container used as the server room.

GeoBox Pty Ltd built fully fitted custom amenities, ready for on-site connection

Toilet and shower amenities for each site were included in the project scope, with specific requirements including porcelain toilets (that wouldn’t crack while being shipped) and custom-built stainless-steel shower trays that were both hard-wearing and stain-resistant.

While most of the modular amenities were fully fitted with hot water systems and plumbing before they were shipped, GeoBox Pty Ltd had to fit one range of amenities with their own waste and water tanks as these facilities were not available on site.

Near-complete and fully fitted out before shipping, GeoBox Pty Ltd ensured that all container modifications along with external measurements, complied with international shipping standards (ISO).

Shipping logistics also had to be factored into the design and build process

Pentagon Freight collected the portable offices from GeoBox Pty Ltd’s depot and shipped them to Lae, PNG. Once they arrived in PNG, rather than transport them by road (a 1,000km rough terrain, high-risk journey), the containers were delivered to each site by ExxonMobil’s Hercules aircraft and helicopters.

For a project of this kind, GeoBox Pty Ltd would normally utilise high-cube containers which are 2.9m high. However, because the internal height of the aircraft measured only 2.7m high, GeoBox Pty Ltd needed to ensure the containers were the standard height of 2.6m. This was a crucial consideration in the design phase.

The logistics of helicopter transportation also required a detailed evaluation and strategy. As the standard containers are not DNV rated for lifting and transportation by helicopter, ExxonMobil used a custom-built cradle to safely transport the containers to site.

Open communication and a solution-focused approach was key to the project’s success

Working together in a collaborative partnership, this project ran smoothly from design through to delivery and final on-site completion. While the turnaround time had to be extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both teams worked diligently to overcome the unforeseen lockdowns, restrictions and social distancing.

Combining open and honest communication, with a creative, solution-focused methodology, the process was streamlined, efficient and successful.

“Putting their full trust in our team, ExxonMobil would simply tell us what they needed while the project was underway, and we’d work quickly to develop and deliver the best, timely solution.” Spencer Ives, GeoBox Pty Ltd

With the project now nearing completion, the shipping container offices provide exceptional space, comfort and functionality for the ExxonMobil team to work both efficiently and effectively.

Shipping containers can be useful in a vast number of applications. But perhaps their most common use these days is providing a safe and secure workshop for tools and equipment on construction sites, mining sites, and various agricultural properties.

Why are shipping containers perfect as worksite lock-ups and workshops for tools and equipment? Read on to find out.

Complete Protection Against the Elements

Protecting your worksite tools and equipment from various environmental conditions is of paramount importance. Cold or hot temperatures can cause severe damage to your equipment, but not as much as moisture.

What if your equipment and tools come in contact with water from heavy rain or a flood? What if you have electrical equipment on your worksite? Water can cause an electrical fire, as it is a natural conductor of electricity.

Any harsh weather can wreak havoc on your temporary workshop, causing permanent damage to all your tools and equipment.

All of this is why it is vital to protect your equipment and tools from the elements. Shipping containers can provide the best possible protection, but you need to make sure you find the right containers for your needs.

You should find durable and robust shipping containers that can stand the test of time. You need to ensure that they are completely watertight so that they don’t ever let any water in.

It is also crucial that they have corrosion-resistant steel bodies to prevent rust and any other damage from oxidation.

Last but not least, you should find properly ventilated containers that can effectively keep moisture away and fight condensation. Fortunately, you can easily find containers with proper insulation, ventilation, dehumidifiers, and air conditioning.

Heavy-Duty Lock Box as Theft Protection

The tools, equipment, and various other work supplies that people use on construction or mining sites are often desirable targets for thieves. Those tools and different types of equipment are usually costly, compelling criminals to look for ways to steal them.

You certainly can’t afford to have someone break into your worksite and steal all that valuable stuff from your temporary workshop. You would need to spend a lot of money to purchase the necessities again, and you would deal with downtime that disrupts your entire work project. This means higher costs, worker dissatisfaction, and a massive dent in your bottom line.

You may have insurance, but it wouldn’t cover all your financial losses. Your uninsured costs may be higher than the amount your particular insurance covers.

Thieves are especially active during the holidays, on weekends, and during nighttime, when construction workers are not on their job site. So, how can you protect your valuables when you’re not around? The answer lies in shipping containers.

If you find a sturdy container with a steel body, it would be impossible for someone to try and break it. However, locking it may not be enough to stop thieves from trying to open it.

So, don’t make yourself an easy target. Get a container that is fitted with a heavy-duty lock-box that is completely tamper-proof. With that kind of protection, all of your valuables will always remain safe and secure.

Protection from Vermin

Many storage facilities focus on providing excellent protection against theft, vandalism, and weather elements, but completely overlook the possible threat of vermin.

What if rodents or insects get into your storage unit? Even if you try and protect all your tools and equipment with plastic wraps or bags, that wouldn’t be enough in case of rodent infestation. Rodents would eat through the plastic.

And it’s not only equipment damage that you should worry about, but also contamination. Rats carry dangerous diseases, so you don’t want them contaminating your workshop.

This is yet another reason why shipping containers are excellent solutions for securing worksites and workshops for tools and equipment.

With a high-quality container on your job site, you won’t have to lose sleep over vermin getting into your storage unit, causing damage to all its valuable contents, and bringing in any disease.

Shelves, Ramps, and Other Modifications for Organization and Maximum Convenience

Keeping your tools and equipment well-organised is essential for worksite efficiency and effectiveness.

With shipping containers, you can easily store and organise everything, from safety hats, gloves, and glasses to all your hand tools, power tools, and various pieces of larger equipment.

This is because you can add shelves, ramps, pipe racks, and a lot of other modifications to organise your temporary workshop. You can add them anytime you need, without causing downtime or any kind of a mess.

These modifications are adjustable, removable, and very easy to install. You can make sure they are heavy-duty as well so that they securely hold all your tools.

Worksite Safety

The safety of your workers should be your number one priority during any construction project. Taking the necessary worksite safety measures will help you reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.

One of those safety measures includes properly organising and putting away all your tools and equipment. By enabling you to organise your tools seamlessly, shipping containers immediately improve the safety of your workers. They help you create a safe work environment where everyone can perform their tasks completely hassle-free.

Equipment Storage That Can Be Relocated

If you store your tools and equipment in a particular storage facility or permanent warehouse, you would need to transport them regularly to your worksite. This is not very efficient and cost-effective.

With shipping containers, you can quickly and easily move your tools when you need to relocate to another site. Their mobility and ease of transport provide the flexibility and convenience that no type of permanent storage does.

Easy Loading and Unloading

Loading and unloading all the tools and pieces of equipment you need for a job can often be very time-consuming. If you transport them to your worksite using trucks, for instance, it would take a lot of time for you to both load and unload them every single day during the construction project.

This is not the case with shipping containers. Since they sit directly on the ground, loading and unloading them is an absolute piece of cake. It’s an easy, quick, convenient, and very cost-effective process.

This October, the Happy Turtle Café landed in the Happy Valley providing Caloundra locals and visitors with coffee, house baked goods, vibrant salads, sandwiches, Açai bowls, cold pressed juices and smoothies.

In collaboration with Murphy Builders and the Sunshine Coast Council, GeoBox Pty Ltd were commissioned to convert one of our 20ft High Cube shipping containers into this sustainable fully functioning kitchen café.

Our modifications team got to work fitting out the container with fully insulated walls and stainless steel interiors. GeoBox Pty Ltd modifications included:

  • Two awnings – one constructed from standard panel and the second a tailor made glass awning
  • Full stainless steel fit out including bench tops, sinks, shelving and range hood with extractor
  • Customised flooring
  • Customised electrical fit out to cater for coffee machines, fridges, ovens, fryers etc
  • Customised plumbing fit out

Once all the modifications were complete, local Caloundra artists; Thom and Marni Stuart, painted the container with a mural inspired by Pumicestone Passage surrounding the Happy Valley. This artwork combined with the beautifully painted signage by Happy Turtle Café operator Chloe Donaldson, has created a great addition to the Happy Valley landscape.

Now running this exciting new venture, Chloe Donaldson is no stranger to health, hospitality and the Happy Valley. Chloe was the manager of the Happy Valley Coffee Van, a popular and well-loved business run by Rob Muston. After 15 years parked by the seaside, Rob served his last coffee from the van this August, handing over the baton to Chloe to continue a friendly and community-driven service.

Chloe is also studying Naturopathy and aims to provide an environmentally friendly business with healthy food and recyclable initiatives as well as remaining produce being given to the homeless.

GeoBox Pty Ltd are extremely proud to have been a part of this new Caloundra business and we wish Chloe and her team all the best for the future!

The GeoBox Pty Ltd team were recently briefed with a complex but exciting project for Bond University. They required AFL home & away team facilities to be installed on their AFL grounds in Robina.

Using four new 20ft high cube containers, our team constructed two stacked structures complete with stairs, landing and awning. The bottom containers were designed as a players seating area, offering shade and shelter. These containers were secured to the ground using the Surefoot anchoring system provided by BMSA, with top containers locked in using twist locks.

The top containers were built for the purpose of housing the team’s coaches. Our modifications team installed insulation, air-conditioning and electrical, complete with a wrap-around window for a good view of the game.

Once on site and in place, GeoBox Pty Ltd then fitted the rear stairs, landing and awning.

It was by no means an easy project, with tight deadlines and a challenging window design. But the end result was well worth the hard work!

There are so many reasons why Australians are choosing self-storage for domestic items. The high cost of housing, down-sizing your home, moving away for work, taking an extended travel trip and long-term building and renovations are just some of the circumstances Australians find themselves in that prompt them to store belongings temporarily on a more permanent basis.

We chatted to Sunshine Coast resident, Jade, who moved from Brisbane last year and found that self storage was the most effective way to relocate her life and belongings without having to get rid of everything she owned.

“I had always wanted to move to the Coast and when my partner was offered a job in Maroochydore, we jumped at the chance. We had to move within a couple of weeks, putting our Brisbane unit up for rent and packing our whole life into boxes. Because I hadn’t secured a job yet we couldn’t afford to find a permanent place to live which meant we were stuck with nowhere to keep our things. We also didn’t have the time to search for the perfect place, we just needed some where to stay until we found our feet.

Despite trying our best to declutter and get rid of things that we didn’t need any-more, there were still many things I couldn’t part with.

Originally being from England I had so boxes of sentimental items from my English family and friends as well items from family members who had passed away. My partner being in construction meant he also had expensive tools that he didn’t need for this current job but would need in the future.

After a quick Google search we found that self storage was going to be the best option for us, and it was. It was affordable and flexible in how long we could keep our stuff packed away. We were also able to access tools and furniture easily that we realised we later needed.”

Self storage is the perfect solution for people like Jade who are relocating, whether that be for a short or long period of time to study or work.

At the GeoBox Pty Ltd Burpengary depot, our self storage shipping Containers are large enough to store home furniture, keepsakes, gym or cleaning equipment and even vehicles and motorcycles!

Mackay Regional Council approached us last year to help develop facilities for their multi-sport venue Sugar Bowl Mackay, a Skate Park and Youth Plaza to be open and free to the public.

“The concept behind the mobile shipping containers was to develop a space suitable for events, clubs, groups and Council staff” explains Jim Carless, Major Projects Manager for Mackay Regional Council.

“The container needed to store kits and equipment at the facility, so workshop mentors and coaches could carry out regular sessions without transporting equipment. The location is in a road reserve, so with the possibility of a future connection road being built, we opted for the transportable solution of shipping containers.”

The brief was to provide two separate spaces. One space was to be used as a first aid/recovery room for events. The second space was to be used as a clubhouse, workshop and storage space for groups.

Our team provided comprehensive drawings and plans before getting to work on the modifications. Works included openings for doors and awnings, flooring and insulated wall panels. We also fitted out shelving, lighting and power points. The site electrician then simply connected mains power to the sub-boards provided by us.

“The whole process was very simple and effective, we would definitely recommend GeoBox Pty Ltd for future conversions.”

Whilst our general purpose containers are great for temporary or long term storage, we understand that sometimes businesses need a permanent space that is unique to their specific storage requirements. An example of this, is a project we completed for Followmont Transport.

After finding us on Facebook, Followmont enquired about purchasing 2 containers, one for storage and one for supplementary workshop purposes. They had a rough idea of what they required but to help them visualise their concept more clearly, we got to work designing some container modifications to suit. Our team provided Followmont with some detailed drawings of what their customised shipping containers would look like.

“The whole process was exceptionally simple,” explains Cassie Eivers, Project and Property Manager at Followmont Transport. “GeoBox Pty Ltd provided 3d drawings of the finished product once we had made the selections so we could see exactly what we are getting.”

Once approved, we carried out modifications on 2 new single use 40’ containers at our Narangba depot. The GeoBox Pty Ltd team added 2 additional sets of doors, lighting, power and ventilation in the roof. We then repainted them and delivered them to their required location. Once onsite, Followmont added an igloo canopy. The containers began being used in September 2018 and are being successfully used in 2019.

“It was a seamless project that delivered exactly what we were after,” adds Cassie.

There are many positives to living a clutter free life in a clutter free home. Clutter can often cause us to get distracted or irritated. It can be particular stressful when trying to find something urgently at home or in the office and it’s not where you thought it was. And if you don’t find that something that you thought you had, you buy duplicates and find the item weeks later costing you more money! It’s no wonder that shows like ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’ and ‘Minimalism’ are trending on Netlfix. Both shows focus on ridding your home of unnecessary items and organising your existing items in a certain way for a stress free life.

It sounds simple, but it can result in being a huge task and can become especially difficult when trying to part with items that we don’t use right now, but may need in the future. Many of us also save sentimental or tax items which can soon pile up into boxes lost in the garage. Luckily, for those of us who can’t quite get rid of everything, there is the self-storage option. With the prices of housing on the rise too, self-storage is a great solution if you need to down-size homes but have too much stuff to store in a smaller home. A garage or shed is also an alternative, however you may not have the space or you may leave your garage free for the storm season to protect your car. Either way there are many short-term and long-term solutions out there, and if you do decide to choose self-storage, we have compiled some tips to get you started!

Why choose a Shipping Container for storage?

Shipping containers were designed to secure and transport goods all over the world, traveling thousands of miles and battling the elements. This makes them perfect for storage due to their strength, durability and corrosion resistant steel bodies.

Why choose a GeoBox Pty Ltd Shipping Container?

Our containers are affordable, clean, quality, weather resistant and vermin proof. Each container has vents for airflow, and we can also add shelving at an additional cost, giving you easy access to your documents. Not only that, you can choose whether to store at our Narangba depot or at your own location with our simple drop off & pick up services. Click here for more information on our storage solutions.

Storage Tip 1 – Organise your things before hiring a storage space

By organising your items before you hire a storage solution, you give yourself a more accurate idea of how much space you actually need. Once you have your space, it may be a good idea to map out where and how you are going to store everything.

Storage Tip 2 – Easy to access items

If your storing a large amount, try to work out which ones you will use the most. By having a numbered list, you can plan out your space and store belongings you may not need at the back of the container. This way you can easily access your most used items.

Storage Tip 3 – Use containers, shelving, separators and hooks

Start by separating your smaller items in to categories and sizes. These can then be stored in to small boxes, trays or containers on shelving. This will allow you to move things around easily and see things clearly rather than having to dig deep in to big boxes of multiple items. Using hooks is also a great way to hang tools and small appliances. This tip is useful for around the home too and saves you from buying excess items that you already had but couldn’t find.

Storage Tip 4 – Clearly label your items

If storing in opaque boxes, clearly label your boxes with the labels facing towards the front. With our fast paced and busy lives, we aren’t always going to remember the exact spot of an item. However the more organised and clearly labelled your storage space is, the easier and quicker you will find what you want, when you want it.

Storage Tip 5 – Preservation

Although our shipping containers are pest proof, air-tight and weather resistant; it’s always important to take extra steps to preserve your belongings. Always make sure your clothes are fully washed, dried and ironed, to keep them fresher and ready to use. Use air-tight plastic containers or suit bags to keep mould and mildew away. You may also want to use natural clothing protectors such as cedar wood balls. Our shipping containers are clean, cool, dark and dry; allowing your items to be safe from storage conditions that may damage your items.

If you would like a quote on self-storage, contact our team today on (07) 3888 3011. Happy tidying!

Yes, you read correctly… helicopter! GeoBox Pty Ltd customer Luke owns and runs a cattle station and needed an on-site, secure, pest proof and cyclone safe storage space for his rotorcraft. Luke provided us with some images of his helicopter along with measurements which allowed our modifications team to get to work on modifying a 40’ container. We raised the roof 300mm and 500mm wide in the centre to ensure the main rotor mast would fit inside the container.

“The whole process was straight forward and quick,” explains Luke. “The pad was set up last month and it’s working great. I would definitely recommend GeoBox Pty Ltd for container modifications and storage.”

We asked Luke if had any advice or tips for others looking to convert a shipping container for storage; “I recommend choosing a white container so it would be a lot cooler in hot weather.”

Another great way to keep a container cool is insulation. Insulation will help in all seasons, keeping the container warm in the cooler months and dry in the damper months. For more information, visit our shipping container insulation blog post.

GeoBox Pty Ltd also provides temporary self-storage solutions which can be a great option for renovations, moving house or storing business or household archives. Find out more on shipping container storage here.

In 2016, we were approached by Unity College with the idea of having an on-site café that brings the local community and their students together, to create new business and learning opportunities. It would also be a place that students, staff and parents could visit throughout the day.

After our initial briefing we went to the drawing board. We used a new 20’ high cube container, adding an awning and side doors. We installed electrical power points and lighting, as well as a split system air-condition unit. The container was then fully insulated and finished with a brick effect feature wall and a polished floor. The biggest challenge we were faced with were the aesthetic features. We don’t often get asked to polish and varnish the floors of our containers, nor to install wood inside of steel doors – but what a great look when they are open!

2 years on and the ‘CoOp @ Unity College’ is thriving! Sat on decking, overlooking the Hospitality and Lecture Theatre facilities, the shipping container café is perfectly placed for staff, students and parents to pass through and stop for their morning coffee. The container even has its own little garden area that welcomes wildlife, fresh flowers and herbs.

The hip little shipping container is the hub for locally sourced products including honey from the College’s own hive of bees. This has created opportunities for students to be part of the honey extraction process as well as designing new bee products and packaging. In October, staff and students will launch their new Bees Wax Food Wraps, a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics and cling wrap. As well as creating the product, students are also involved in the branding and marketing, check out this video on ‘how to create your own’, produced by a Senior student: http://bit.ly/2zu6h04

The CoOp has also provided shift work for Year 12 students who are interested in gaining Barista and customer service skills. The Senior Hospitality students also come up with new initiatives to connect their cooking lessons to the café. They will often sell their meals at the CoOp for lunches, or provide freshly cut ingredients and recipes for customers to take home and cook.

This shipping container conversion concept is open to the whole College too, with Junior students regularly visiting the space for outdoor lessons. Music students are also welcome and provide customers with soothing sounds at lunchtime for the Thursday ‘Thump Sessions’. The musicians come to showcase their talent whilst also helping to create a collaborative and creative space.

Because of innovative work and student focused initiatives like these, Unity College has just been selected as a finalist in the 2018 Sunshine Coast Business Awards in the Education & Training Category.

This GeoBox Pty Ltd conversion is a great example of how you can turn a hollow shipping container in to a fully functioning business. Way to go Unity!

From pools to schools, there are no rules when it comes to the correct use of a shipping container. Choosing the right container for your needs doesn’t have to be tricky with our list of five handy questions by your side.

What do you need the container for?

The only limitation on what a shipping container can be used for is your own imagination. From stunning homes to medical centres, or for additional storage space while you move house, there isn’t much that one of our shipping containers can’t become to help you out when you’re short of space.

Containers make the perfect office space without turning your house into a work environment. They can also be used as portable or permanent shops, hair salons and cafés.

However, if you’re more of a traditionalist, then our containers can also continue be used for shipping your valuable possessions from one part of the country to another, via land or sea, keeping them dry, safe and free from the attention of unwanted nasty visitors (vermin) until they reach their destination.

Easily transported, our containers can hold your valued items either at your location or offsite – offering a much higher level of flexibility than fixed location storage spaces.

What size container do you need?

Our containers come in 6m (20ft) and 12m (40ft) lengths, and standard height and high cube configurations. Our smallest shipping container is a 6m (20ft) standard, this provides 33.2cu/m of space – enough room for the contents of an average three bedroom home.

But if you’re still not sure what size you are going to need, just use our volume calculator, or call us and we’ll help you to decide.

Use our handy shipping container volume calculator to estimate your shipping container size needs.

How long do you need the shipping container for?

Whether for commercial or personal use, the length of time you need the shipping container for (and what modifications you need to make) will ultimately decide if you would be better off buying a unit, or simply hiring one.

Our fleet of hire containers are among the youngest and most diverse in South East Queensland and consist of portable storage units that have only been used domestically within Australia. Our agreements are flexible and competitive and we can often deliver a hire container on the same day that it’s ordered.

However, if your needs determine that you should purchase your very own shipping container then you can rest assured that with us you’re getting the highest standard and latest designs available.

If a used container is more within your budget then we have designed our very own unique grading criteria to help you to choose the right container for your needs. All of our used containers are inspected for damage, structural integrity and aesthetics on arrival at out depot and based on this process we can ensure that we meet your requirements and expectations.

GeoBox Pty Ltd offers an efficient and value for money solution designed to meet your
needs.
